Redgate's Senior Partner Aare Tammemäe has been showing off his knack for turning losses into profits ever since Estonia regained its independence from the Soviet Union.

His banking, real-estate and industry experience stretches back to 1992 when, while studying economics and management at Tallinn Technical University, he was hired on as a researcher for SIAR-Bossard, a Scandinavian company specialising in Baltic acquisitions.

After spending two years in Boston earning his MBA and working as a mutual fund advisor at State Street Bank, Aare came back to Estonia in 1997 and joined the investment company Talinvest. There he was part of the team that set up Suprema Securities, the first independent investment banking company in the Baltics.

Aare was soon offered a chairman position in the state-owned Compensation Fund, which played a crucial role in privatising the ex-Soviet country’s assets. Together with his team Aare turned the company from a 30 million EUR loss-making operation in 1998 into a 6 million EUR profit-making venture in 1999.

In 2001 Aare was invited to join the Port of Tallinn where he became a member of the management board and CFO. There he oversaw numerous investment and capital raising projects including the company’s first bond issue on the Tallinn Stock Exchange.

Aare was later recruited by Nordea, Scandinavia's largest bank, who appointed him Head of Corporate Banking in Estonia and a Board Member of Nordea Estonia. In a tough environment Aare managed to increase both the market share and profitability of the bank.

Aare moved over to Arco Vara, one of the largest real-estate companies in the Baltics, in 2007. He started as CFO and quickly took on the role of Chairman of the Board. Amid falling valuations and weakening demand for real-estate, Aare’s job was mainly focused on increasing the company's efficiency and finding new equity investors. Aare resigned from the company after majority owners rejected a buyout offer by a global institutional player.

In 2008 Mart Altvee and Veikko Maripuu invited Aare to partner with them in launching Redgate Capital.

“Investment banking and capital raising in particular is an extremely challenging task in this difficult macro environment, especially in the new emerging markets. However, we see a great need for corporate finance services on the market, and we are there to help companies to survive and grow during these challenging times. Our goal is to serve our clients and investors in a professional way. We believe in our team’s skills and expertise.”

An experienced industrial and banking professional, Aare leads Redgate’s Financial Advisory unit with a focus on capital raising and merger and acquisition services.
